WE BREED 200,000 SILENT CRICKETS EVERY WEEK
ORDERS PLACED BEFORE NOON MONDAY-THURSDAY
SHIPPED THE SAME DAY
Silent crickets or Gryllus assimilis are native to the West Indies. Each and every week throughout the year, Livefoods Direct breeds a minimum of 200,000 silent crickets for its UK customers. Silent crickets provide a highly nutritious diet (58.4% protein as a % of dry matter) for both birds and reptiles. Silent crickets are bred on Progrub, a protein rich meal blended specially for cricket rearing by Livefoods Direct. Silent crickets have an amazing growth rate, from hatching from its egg pod to being able to reproduce itself only takes a silent cricket 35-42 days under ideal conditions.
Silent crickets are available in 3 sizes
- Silent crickets medium 13-18mm
- Silent crickets large 18-25mm
- Silent crickets adult 25-30mm
Silent crickets can be purchased in different sizes and different packs depending on the quantity and the size the customer requires. Packs vary from plastic pre pack tubs containing as few as 25 adult crickets to cloth sacks of crickets containing up to 500 of whatever size cricket the customer requires.
Silent crickets should be stored in a cool, dry, dark place - ideally between 16-20 degrees centigrade. Silent crickets that have been travelling overnight by courier or in the post need to be transferred to suitable storage containers on arrival. A deep container with smooth sides such as a glass or plastic tank with a very well ventilated but tight fitting lid is ideal. The crickets need perching areas to reduce stress. These can be provided in the form of cardboard egg trays which are ideal. A small saucer of Progrub placed in the tank will provide the crickets all the nutrition they need. Water can be given to the crickets by providing Solidwater gel available from Livefoods Direct.
Because silent crickets are a tropical species they do not travel well in extremely cold weather and may appear dead on arrival if temperatures fall below zero degrees Celsius in transit. If this should happen the crickets should be left in their shipping container and moved to a very warm room immediately. After 30 minutes the crickets should recover and can be handled and transferred to their storage container in the normal manner.
